Hypothetically, "he" is "omnipresent" - which means he was right there, and there is no excuse for his not intervening on behalf of his "beloved creation".

More importantly, what was the snake or rather 'serpent' described in Genesis 3:1 as being "more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made" . Many people automatically assume that it was Satan but the punishment dished out to it by God in 3:14 - "thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life" means that this can't be right. . So was it an animal that was "possessed' by Satan in some way. Again the punishment seems to rule this out. Why punish the animal if it was Satan was doing the possessing? . So was it just a creature that happened to be evil? There is nothing in the text of Genesis that implicates Satan at all and the description of the serpent being 'subtil' no doubt means crafty or underhand so it does seem like this might be the answer. . This raises some obvious questions; . 1. Why does Satan always seem to get the blame for this incident when it seems highly unlikely that he was involved? . 2. Why did God create something like the serpent in the first place and why did he put it in the Garden of Eden which was supposed to be paradise. . 3. What manner of creature was the serpent? It could talk, had a pretty high level of intelligence and seemed to know the workings of God, Heaven and the Earth. What type of being fits this profile? . . 4. Why did God guard the Garden so diligently to stop man re-entering it "...and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way ..". But seemingly did nothing to stop the serpent getting into the Garden when it really mattered? . 5. If God knew this was going to happen why did he not warn Adam and Eve about this specific danger in advance. This would have put them on their guard but not violated the free will choice that they had to make? . 6. Why did God expect Eve to be able to resist the serpent's lies. She probably didn't know what a lie was, she only found out the difference between good and evil after she had eaten the fruit. . So where was God when all this was going on ? Where indeed, but he must have been doing something incredibly important if it took precedence over the fall of all humanity. I can't help thinking that this whole debacle doesn't sound like something that a perfect, omnipotent, omniscient, onmipresent being would engineer. It has more of a gigantic cock up type of feel about it.
