I haven't been in a physical fight for over 20 years. But with regard to 'verbal' fights, when I'm not being a jerk, my basic philosophy is that everyone in the fight is really on the same side... i.e. we're all human, we all want life to work, we all care, we are all imperfect. The fight should be about sorting out things that matter in our mutual quest to have life work for everyone. So it's a limited conflict, and a conflict with a distinct and meaningful purpose. And it doesn't mean that we're ever really separate from each other.

If it's physical then all bets are off. I haven't been in a physical fight since early high school. In a verbal fight I have a hard and fast rule and I will not cross it. Play fair. If I cannot convince the other person to do the same, I'm outta there.

I would never have a physical fight with anyone ... just not my style. I would hardly waste my time with a verbal "fight" either. I would if pressed, but never lower myself other than just to express my opinion in a matter of fact way and move on.

in a physical fight ignore whatever they are doing to you and concentrate on hurting them, and in a verbal fight listen to both sides, unless the opponent is closed off and refuses to listen to my side, then most of the time I won't bother as you are on a hiding to nothing.
