I've been wearing gloves all my life, but now that it's freezing in Washington, DC, I'm wondering whether mittens might be warmer. Most adults and guys wear gloves, but I'd like to hear from mitten wearers. I think that perhaps mittens are warmer, since the fingers can help to warm each other, but gloves are likely better for handling objects and opening up doors. Today, my fingers froze right through my gloves, so I want to test my theory that mittens might offer better cold protection.

fingerless gloves with mitten pull overs, becasue they are warm when you need them, but if you need free fingers the rest of your hands are still warm!

Gloves. Because it's easier to grasp and handle stuff. Besides it's easier to make good snowballs (heh, heh). But the gloves should be warm and waterproof then. I don't like mittens too much because my hands start sweating more often and they just feel clumsy.

It doesn't get cold enough here for me to wear either one. When I go someplace where one is necessary, I go with gloves. Mostly because I like to be able to move my fingers independently. My hands still get cold though, and I am thinking that they may stay warmer (although possibly sweatier) if I used mittens. I may have to buy a pair next time and try them out.

Mittens, because they will help keep your hands warmer due to the fact that all your fingers are kept inside the same arear so they warm each other instead of gloves where your fingers have to try to warm themselves. GLoves, because you are more free to use your fingers to complete more difficult tasks.

Mittens. I'll sacrifice finger dexterity for the security of knowing they're still attatched.
