I've never really bought a house, as I've always been drawn to the property first. It's the land that pulls at my heart, the views, the surroundings, the feel of the place. I'll worry about what kind of house later.

Rooms, doors, windows, moat and a dungeon

Location. Nice setting and landscaping. Is there room for are garden? Security. What is the neighborhood like? Is it secure. Do the neighbors take care of their homes and properties. Hoe is the neighborhood zoned? Is it built up? If there are farm fields near by – could they be building warehouses in those fields. Are you near schools? What is the local school district like? What are the local taxes like?

very good question seeing as im in the process of looking right now. first and foremost i look at where the house is. i plan on living there for quite some time and i am not married nor do i have children but im hopin they are in the near future. so i check out school systems as well. other than that my big concerns are the kitchen, the master bedroom, closet, and bathroom, and the living room. i like my house to feel very open. i have alot of family and we are always getting together and i dont wanna feel left out while im in the kitchen getting food ready. that and i want and need lots of room in my room, closet, and bathroom.

The address of the house. :p I would apply the lessons I've learned from my experience with my first house: Don't buy a house that's next to anything other than another house (as opposed to e.g., an apartment complex) or a bucolic open space. Don't buy one that has a flat roof or is on a depressed lot. There are other things that I would look for but those are what I would start with.

Great neighborhood.

A solid foundation. A new roof. Nice light inside. Closet space.
