Question

Help answer this question below.

When I put my 93 Mustang into "park", the car seems to semi die momentarily then resumes the power it had. Like the headlights and dashboard lights go dim for a second then lights back up, so does the rest of the car. What is it?

Sounds like an electrical problem to me and could be in the wiring.

I think it's one (or both) of two things.

There's no reason that going into Park should affect the electrical system in this way. The only thing that gets electrically switched when you do this is the transmission gear indicator.

But what I think might be happening is that the engine/transmission is twisting slightly when you do this, which may be causing a ground wire to move/twist/bend. So check the following...

    1) The major battery cables, especially the cable to the negative terminal. Also check any major grounding points (where several wires come together on the body of the car) for damage or looseness.

    2) Check your motor mounts and transmission mounts. If these are worn, the drivetrain can twist excessively and put more strain on the wiring.

    Good luck.
