What is the exact purpose of being judgmental? You know, looking down on others because they don't do what you do and don't feel as you do? Is it to make yourself feel superior in some way or is it to guide them on the path of "rightness"?

Sometimes we ARE superior. I just think it's more fun to find out what other's interpretation of life is, and point out their double standards.

My mother is very judgmental and it is because she believes that people are not living the way they should. I don't know why she gets in such a tizzy about it! When she "gets going" we just have to change the subject! Don't get me wrong, I love my mother!!!

In my opinion, you hit the nail on the head. I think it's a crying shame there are those who get a kick out of trying to make others feel badly. I could go on and on about this subject! I have no respect for them whatsoever. If they truly were wanting to "help" another (guide someone on the "path of righteousness") they wouldn't be judgemental at all but instead, approach the person in a gentle manner so as not to hurt the feelings of the other, and bring up the subject discretely. I taught both my children (ages 11 and 22) not to judge anyone on anything other than the way that person makes them feel about themselves.
