Yes. They are both derogatory, and shouln't be used.
-
Here, calling someone a cracker would be a compliment.
-
any name you call someone besides their given name is bad.
-
No i guess it is not or you would have spelled out the N word wouldn't you of
-
Cracker is just silly.
-
I don't even know what "cracker" means.
-
As soon as we can stop delegating certain words to against races, we can then start moving AHEAD, and EVOLVE...
-
Yes, it's bad. Some people call that term a "reverse-racism" term, but that would be wrong. Racism is to have negatively prejudiced attitudes towards any race (not just black people), so reverse-racism would be either hating everybody or hating nobody. The term comes from comparing caucasian (white) people to soda crackers, in that they are flaky, break easily and have no real substance to them. Niger is a place in Africa, as is Nigeria. The term became derogitory when slave traders used it to refer to a subset of people from that particular area and the slaves started to take offense to the term. More information about the country Niger can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niger, or by visiting your local library. So, in answer to your question, calling someone a "cracker" (or more recently common crackah/cracka) is worse than "the n word", yes, in my books, it is.
-
I don't know about everyone else, but I've been called a "cracker", and honestly, didn't give a shit! To me it just sounds stupid, and unoffensive! If you want to offend me, call me a peice of shit or a motherf%#*@r! I'd probably just laugh at you if you called me a cracker! As far as the "N" word is concerned, in my opinion, "cracker" is humorous, but the "N" bomb is always hurtful!
-
I think cracker sounds stupid because people don't understand the history of it ; however I've never heard " Cracker" censored. It should be. The N word is usually censored. The intent of both words is to hurt . The " n" word in my opinion is worse. What I will never understand is why African Americans use it as a term of endearment. To somehow prove it doesn't have any power to hurt anymore ? Who are you trying to convince me or yourself ?
-
A Cracker is actually a native Floridian.
-
Well, no, but black people who go around calling white people crackers probably thinks that it is. i dont care what you call me. ill make up my own racial slurs for the white people. You will now refer to us as pasteys!!!!
-
Yes, when someone calls me a cracker, I say the n word right back at them, pisses them off too.
-
I think it all depends on the context... meaning who said it to the person and what they intended by it. These words can both me said amongst friends without hurting anyone and then on the other hard the total opposite.
-
my teacher called me this sooooo...
-
from what i know its also a compliment.
-
No. They're not the same. A cracker is something you eat. The word nigger is only used to describe black people. The term is specific.
-
well im white and if a black person called me a cracker i would just laugh, i think words like cracker and honkey were just made up to counter the N word. The N word was used for hundreds of years as a deragatory term towards african americans, and i don't approve of ANYONE using it, not even black people.
-
Not if you follow it by "Jack"...or your gf's name is Polly.
-
No. And deep down you know it too. Why else would you easily type out "cracker" in your question, but hesitate to type out "nigger". You used the safe and somewhat less offensive "the 'n' word" euphemism. Hope this helps.
-
Of course not, that's why black people are allowed to say it so much.
-
Well, I think that just sounds goofy. And so does "Honkey". And, there isn't much that is offensive about goofiness.
-
Some people here in Florida take deep pride in being "Crackers". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_cracker http://butchharrison.com/ http://www.orangecountyfl.net/NR/rdonlyres/exyxutru7vrm374abvmrcvontt3bwziskwo5vt76c6djldbs6yfwiw55boy5pw2gtpuezll3nhokry3v2e3pu7tfqch/PioneerLife_5-8.pdf

I am white, and a black has cassualy called me a nigger. how the hell can they throw the term around so lightly but if anyone else sayes it it is fighting words... I doubt of today you could get away with calling a black a negro which was never intended to be derogatory, just spanish for black mispronounced and sounds more like a group of people than "black". I am guessing cracker is based on the fact that soda crackers are white... I personaly do not take offence to terms and consider those that do desperate to be angry. if they can use the term clearly it is not that offencive unless it suits their purposes to be offended.
-
No, it's not, because the power relationship is asymmetrical. A white person being derogatory towards blacks has FAR different consequences than a black person being derogatory towards whites. Don't believe me? Just compare the treatment of Bill Clinton's "Sistah Soljah" moment... . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sister_Souljah_moment . to the recent publication of "Barack the Magic Negro" . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_the_Magic_Negro In a perfect world, the two pejoratives would be equally offensive, but we live in a far-from-perfect world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4xQlaW84ac

I believe that all racial slurs have the same level of vileness in and of themselves. Any word used as an ethnic or other bigoted slur is the same. There is a difference, however, between n*gger and most of the rest: historical. There is more violence associated with the word n*gger than other ethnic slurs and that has to be factored into consideration of the words themselves. I have thought about this and cannot think of any ethnic slur that has the kind of violence behind it that nigger does. Obviously I am one of those people who has trouble typing it out even. Offhand I cannot think of any ethnic slur that has as much violence behind its use as the word "n*gger." With the history removed I believe that cracker (when not referring something to eat) is just as bad as n*gger and, myself, choose to not use any bigoted slurs, including cracker.
-
if someone called me cracker that would result in a ass whoopin it is just a bad as the N word as your callin it
-
I guess so but i'm not bothered by cusses like that, i'm proud to be white so nothing they say can affect me.
