  • Not all. But most modern ones would be marked on the bottom as to where they can be safely used.
  • No, not unless they state 'ovenproof'.
  • It depends on if it's truly "Ceramic". Most handcrafted pieces that are properly "fired" in a kiln will be taken to Cone 05 to 06 during the "glaze" firing which is 1875 to 1950 degrees fahrenheit. Since no standard oven can cook even close to that temperature, these items would be safe for oven use, provided that the glaze used does not contain lead or other toxic ingredients. Commercially produced ware that is china/ceramic based, will also be taken to these or even higher temperatures, and are usually stamped "oven safe". Beware of pieces that look ceramic but aren't, like Corelle dinnerware. It's a kind of glass that would not withstand oven temperatures. The bottom line is know how or where the items were produced to be sure.
  • if they did not explode in the kiln then they probably wont in an oven
  • If it says ovenproof on the back it is. If it's been handmade, like some of mine are, it's hard to tell. I've not had any breakage from well made pottery, but I have had crazing of the glazes. So that might be something you want to think about.
