The biggest reason is that they were themselves abused by men, through out their lives. It starts with her being a vicim of spousel abuse, that later traslates to the woman seeking out an abusive partner, that then starts the cycle of abuse.

I think it's all fear based. Men get blamed too often for the emotional and mechanical errors in a relationship, because those women put all their hope, faith and trust in a man who betrayed them, or let them down. When this happens, they shield themselves from ever getting hurt by being hostile, aggressive, and cruel towards innocent men who wouldn't treat them this way.
