Until you become a citizen of the United States, i would not attempt any contacts with The Federal Government. they will discover you are an illegal immigrant and deport you. Be legal, then go for it.

You do have the right to do this by simply filing a form, but I stronly recommend that you NOT do that. And whatever attorney you use should be familiar with your immigration situation. You're not yet a citizen (but it looks like you intend to become one) and presumably you'll have dealings with Immigration and Customs Enforcement from time to time. I don't mean to alarm you, but it's a good idea for you to assume that anything that can be misunderstood will at some point BE misunderstood. It may be that doing this would clarify things rather than confuse them, but I just don't know. Make sure you're getting advice from your attorney before moving forward.
