  • Apparently a lot of people think it is a hoax, and a big scare campaign. I am not sure who would be responsible for this scare campaign or why it would benefit anyone. Even if the earth is in a natural heating cycle (man made or not) it still needs to be dealt with.
  • They either don't care about the place they live in, or ignorantly think they can't do nothing to prevent it from growing.
  • Because even though you can do little things to decrease the amount of effect you as an individual are contributing, you can't do enough as one person to stop it.
  • In Europe we are not allowed to ignore Global Warming , I am afraid the USA are not doing their bit and now the Asian countries are becoming so industrialised there is little hope of it reversing with all the extra pollutants
  • TV morons push global issue too far for comfort, and funny enough everyone is going along with it. "Are we all gonna die?" asked Meredith Vieira on NBC's Jan. 7 "Today" show. "Will billions die from global warming?" splashed on the screen during ABC's Feb. 2 "World News Tonight." The very media that has bashed President Bush for using "scare tactics" to justify his post-Sept. 11 foreign policy are today using the politics of fear to advance a liberal environmental agenda that man-made global warming is going to annihilate humanity. Remember after Hurricane Katrina when we were told hurricanes would destroy us because of global warming? Zero hurricanes touched land in the United States last year; only a handful formed in the ocean. Niger Calder, author and former editor of New Scientist magazine, recently said, "One awkward question you can ask when you're forking out these extra taxes for climate change is 'Why is east Antarctica getting colder?' It makes no sense at all if carbon dioxide is driving global warming." Global warming is cyclical, as is global cooling. Likewise, said physicist Fred Singer of the University of Virginia, there have been 600 moderate warmings during the Earth's past million years. The cyclical nature of sunspot activity, solar flares and other activities of the sun can be linked to past warmings. Humans have never impacted any of the previous warmings; neither have CO-2 levels. The April 28, 1975 issue of Newsweek magazine featured an article called "The Cooling World." It warned: "The temperature of the planet is dropping off." The solution? We need to deliberately melt the polar ice caps, or we will all die. This was the media and scientific communities' consensus only 32 years ago! Al Gore says the oceans are going to rise by 20 feet and wreak havoc. He assumes the water volume in Antarctica and the Artic will all melt, and then adds that amount to existing ocean levels. Yet a vast majority of this water volume is already in the ocean in the form of ice, which Gore ignores. But 20-foot ocean level increases sells better and are a useful fear tactic. Liberal Boston Globe columnist Ellen Goodman sums up what the issue is really about and why Al Gore and his ilk must succeed: "We are still waiting for the time when an election hinges on a candidate's plan for a changing climate." Forget scientific accuracy; fear tactics help win elections. Gore said of President Bush on Feb. 9, 2004: "He betrayed this country! He played on our fears!" Played on our fears indeed. The hypocrisy is baffling.
  • Because thats what we do with a lot of our problems... sweep them under the rug.
  • There is a huge campaign amongst the rich capitalists, particularly in the US, to make global warming science seem like a religion and make us think that the science behind it is "bad". This is a small but vocal group... and most people living in the west enjoy their excessive lifestyle, so adapting this "global warming is a hoax" attitude suits them well. Sad state of affairs really. You will see the current tide of deniers start to dwindle quickly once all the capitalists realize the money making opportunities in going "green". President Bush and Exxonmobile are already starting go that route. It is difficult to keep finding scientists that will support the deniers claims... often ending up being exposed as not being real scientists or then being misquoted.
  • Because people are selfish ignorant They live for today and don't care about how the future planet will be or how it will affect those that follow ... Greed George Bush along with many other politicians and corporation CEO's are the worst ... Make money now for me ... no matter the cost, who cares about the rest when I die ... Sad!
  • Not everyone is ignoring global warming, but I think the majority are ignoring or they know about it but...there is an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality in our society. People will start to worry about it when the sea water levels start rising and rising, getting into people's homes, and then it is going to be too late...
  • Because noone feels threatened to do anything about it - if we had laws that ment we had to live in a certain way or we'd go to jail for ten years then everyone would be trying to prevent it getting any worse right now - plus theres nothing on in america or china to make the countries be aware - there the main culprits - if we were to take away the humbveys and coal factories - etc then it would do the world alot of good - but because tony blair is a bum chum with bush then we can't actually force them because bush has control of the uk! - its shit!
  • basically because, as in most other parts of life, people are self-centred and will not limit their own comforts for anyone else's benefit, even their descendants'. that's how we got the mess in the first place (see Genesis 3)
  • because its one less idiot to deal with
  • How can we ignore it? its in our face on the news! Here is a good video to not ignore- http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/968300
  • Possibly because it's not happening: http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/01/06/br_r_r_where_did_global_warming_go/ I'm personally glad Bush took Bill Clinton's lead and didn't sign on to Kyoto. As well as Russia. China is possibly one of the world's largest polluters, and they were exempt.
  • I dont believe it is happening. Just like in the 1970's the big thing was global cooling.
  • because the decisions are being made by greedy ignorant fools. (ps. did you know the leading cause to global warming was the cattle industry.. meat is TOTALLY murder in so many ways)
  • Global what?
  • Well can we really do anything about it?! i mean are we supposed to go up there and build a new ozone layer?? Even if we fix what we are doing now it won't really help what we already did. The world will end one way or the other. We all know this. I'm all for cutting back on some things and more trees and stuff but seriously it won't stop anything. It's too big of a problem to fix....sorry.
  • Global warming is a myth yo... A person or thing existing only in imagination, or whose actual existence is not verifiable. This word originates from the Sanskrit word "Mithya"; with the same meaning. -WIK
  • Myth! Why is everyone ignoring the loch ness monster! And BigFoot! why?! cause they don't care!
  • Cuz I'm freakin COLD and my power bill sucks ass. Bring on the heat!
  • I'm not sure if this is just regional, but where I live EVERYONE is talking about "being green" and "Green, green, green" and global warming. Seriously, if I don't turn into Kermit the Frog here, I'll be surprised. I live in a pretty liberal/granola head city, so that might explain it. Recycle, reusable bags (there's a charge in alot of grocery stores for the use of plastic bags), earth day, all sorts of "green" stuff. People won't shut up about it.
  • Lol. Because, through the Earths' entirity, we go through constand cycles of Global Cooling & Global warming. Semesters in Biology, well, let me sum it up. Ice ages, and droughts for example. It's all very complex. Just realize there's not that much excess Carbon Dioxide.(In comparisn to the HYPE) Why don't you complain about the rainforests being torn down? Something with more substance. We can't prove a detrimental bout of heating, by the way, it's all just theory. The real question is, WHY does Al Gore get over 300,000,000 yearly for this Global Hoax? Do a little research on the guy & his motivation for involvement --I DARE you.
  • Lol I love all you weenies downrating me. All of you have no expertise or education behind you. Too bad you all spend too much time on this website and not out in the real world. Thanks for the negative points!
  • global warming is real but it wasnt caused by humans. its caused by sunspots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbAe_g41Zl4
  • As other answers have correctly noted, people ignore global warming because of one big reason and lots of little reasons. The big reason is that it is inconvenient, just as Al Gore has said. Because we have such a high standard of living these days everyone wants to turn a deaf ear to all of the evidence coming from countless respected scientists and science organizations that indicates we may be in for brutal times in a few decades. It seems insane, and yet consistent to the big reason just mentioned, that these same people listen intently to the few who say that because science was wrong before it is definitely wrong now. It doesn't sound logical but that line of thinking keeps everything peachy, so that must be the truth. On youtube is "The Most Terrifying Video You'll Ever See", which makes the case that it is completely illogical and irresponsible not to take action immediately regarding climate change. The guy in the video says (to paraphrase), "Global warming is either true or false. We will either take action or not take action regaring the issue. In other words there are four possibilities for the future: 1) We take action now and in the future we learn GW was indeed true, 2) we take action now and in the future we learn that GW was false, 3) We take little to no action now and in the future we learn that GW was indeed true, or 4) We take little to no action now and we learn in the future that GW was false." Watch it whether you agree or disagree with global warming and see why we should take action, all of us, immediately. Like scientists from all over the world say we should.
  • Everyone isnt ignoring it.
  • Because it's a big scary thing that the people in charge are afraid of so they just ignore it like Borderlinux would like everyone to do.
  • Because GW is a hoax. My 2 cents. http://www.21stcenturysciencetech.com/Articles%202007/GWHoaxBorn.pdf
  • Because it is a hoax! It is being hyped to keep the status quo 40 year old environmental groups going and to create new revenue for carbon-credit middlemen. It is easy to persuade people that something is real if you hype it enough. Millions of children die each year because DDT is no longer used, a cheap relatively safe pesticide. It was banned, or at least left by the wayside, just as the scientific evidence showed that it was safe. The disuse came about because of environmental hysteria. Global warming hype is less valid than the hype on this dire warning about a relatively harmless chemical compound found virtually everywhere: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MawlljmaS1w&feature=related
  • It is hard to ignore something that does not exist.
