  • The anti-oxidants in the wine help you. Only drink in moderation. Don't drink to get drunk. Savor the drink.
  • A glass or two with a meal is good for you, but you shouldn't drink every day of the week, or you can develop a mild dependence. Each small glass is approx. 1.6 units (that's UK units), and an average man should have no more than 21 units per week, a woman 14. Red wine contains many antioxidents. These react with radicals (a by product of respiration) and elmininate them, radicals are very reactive chemical species that can damage DNA and other structures. This damage can cause anything from signs of aging to cancer. All from just breathing!
  • Red wine has many antioxidants and they say 1 glass a day is OK for you ... Red wine is a rich source of biologically active phytochemicals, chemicals found in plants. Particular compounds called polyphenols found in red wine-such as catechins and resveratrol-are thought to have anti oxidant or anti cancer properties. I have been to Europe many times and the proof is in the pudding ... there are many people that drink red wine and look much younger for their age ... and usually have a good life span ... http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/red-wine-and-cancer-prevention http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Antioxidants
  • The antioxidants are the things. they break down free radicals which can cause cancer. but too much wine can actually reverse the process, so moderation is the way to go. Red wine is also an antiseptic, so rinsing your mouth out with wine at the end of the day is good for any injuries to gums.
  • It is suppose to be good for your heart. Drinking a cup or two a day is a recommended amount
  • red wine is only good for non-vegetarians
  • Resveratrol is the heart healthy compound found in red wine that fights free radicals. One glass per day is recommended. Note: One 'glass' or serving of wine is 4-6 oz., yet most wine glasses easily hold 8 oz.! Also interesting, is that research at Cornell University found that Concord Grape Juice actually contained more resveratrol than many wines, plus the added benefit of potassium (75% of that found in a banana). So, if you don't like wine, can't take it with medications, or don't want to risk dependence, try grape juice instead.
  • Females 2 x 4 oz glasses per day maximum Men 3 /4 at the very most A 4 oz Glass is a small glass EDIT sorry i missed the first part of the question. Red wine is good for the heart and vascular system
  • nevets, your continuous persuasion may benifit or destroy you one day. my first answer was 'red wine is only good for non-vegetarians'. being a vegetarian myself(please note i have never encouraged anyone in this world to be a vegetarian, not even my wife whom i've been married to for 31 years)i get all the nutrients etc., that is keeping me alive from the simple foods i eat.this includes fruits, lots of citrus, vegetables, potatoes, yams, beets, carrots and spinach is my favorite along with rice and pasta. i avoid bread and i haven't tasted tea since summer of '86.i drink about 32 ozs. of coffee daily and a few thousand beers annually.i will go far back as 1990 to today, let us say 16 years.for the past 16 years i did not drink 75 gallons of water.that is less than 5 gallons per year.can't believe it? it is a fact. going back to the red wine and it's benifits.the experts may recommend a glass or two, three times weekly and suggested that the anti-oxidants in the wine helps to cleanse your system from pollutants.this was never proven.there is a very big problem with drinking wine and lots of people aren't aware of it.after opening a bottle of wine,it is important that it's finished within a week.incorrect storage and delayed consumption can cause the wine to become vinegar.i wonder how a glass of vinegar and a cigar will blend.most drinkers i know also smokes.so that right there is a bad combination for the liver. as a beer drinker, i always finish what i open.people that drink hard liquor doesn't have to worry that what's left in the bottle may become vinegar, plus it never requires any special storage. i have been drinking since i was 8 years old and so far i've never met or heard of someone that drinks alcohol because it contains anti-oxidants. the french eat lots of undercooked meat,so they try to counter that with red wine,at the same time they also boost their economy. in conclusion,i must make myself absolutely clear,i do not recommend drinking alcohol.not because i don't drink tea or hardly ever drink water it is bad for you.i only drink the things i like and everyone should only drink the things that they themselves like.
  • UPDATE:february 28th'07 12:05pm researchers from the university of copenhagen have just published a report stating that anti-oxidants shorten your life. the people that are at higher risk are the ones taking vitamins A/E and anti-oxidant supplements. they recommended instead that you eat a balanced diet packed with fibre.
