ok, If vets do it its usually painless, but as far as it being cruel its only done so a dog looks "better" if you own a dog for a pet it doesnt NEED to look good, I have 2 rotts without their tails cropped there is no need. Like I said before the only reason ppl crop the ears of a pit is so they have a better chance in a fight. If your pitt is your pet, leave is ears alone and be happy with him, no need to crop. BUT if you still feel there is a need please take him to a vet, there is no non cruel or painless way to do it at home. thanks

Not every one agrees that it's cruel (I assume you mean ear cropping and tail docking) and there is a demand for it.

1) please don't use Caps Lock, it makes it look like you are shouting. 2) there is something similar to the Hippocratic oath for veterinarians: " the American Veterinary Medical Association adopted the following oath in 1969: "Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health, the relief of animal suffering, the conservation of livestock resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge. I will practice my profession conscientiously, with dignity, and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics. I accept as a lifelong obligation the continual improvement of my professional knowledge and competence." Source: American Veterinary Medical Association" Source and further information: http://www.goodnewsforpets.com/Articles.asp?ID=368 3) So theoretically, veterinarians are not supposed to do things that are considered cruel. However, what is considered cruel will broadly vary if you are asking a veterinarian, an animal testing scientist, a breeder, a farmer, an animal trainer, a non vegetarian cook, a pet owner or an animal rights supporter. People have also different views about different animals. Also, views about cruelty to animals vary with time and culture.
