  • Whether s/he can tell or not, you should be *telling* your doctor things like that. (assuming you mean a miscarriage in the past, vs. having a miscarriage right now, in which case GET THEE TO A HOSPITAL.)
  • The only way that your doctor can confirm a miscarriage is by taking a blood sample to check your quantitative beta-HCG levels and by also performing an ultrasound.
  • I think lots of people misunderstand how common miscarriages are, they happen A LOT without the pregnant women even knowing since they are so common in early (EARLY) pregnancy, and are often mistaken for a regular period. So to answer your question, it depends on the situation. If you knew you were 5+ weeks pregnant, it's easier to know. If you have heard the heartbeat and then it stops, it's pretty easy to know.
