  • I hope not! I enjoy defragging. I just love to watch the little boxes blink different colors. I also get a really good feeling knowing my hard drive is all in order. "I file for everything and every file in it's place!" That's my motto.
  • The only thing Windows 7 will relieve us of is Windows. I recently upgraded from 2k to XP kicking and grumbling only because 2k couldn't handle modern, ultra-large hard drives. When I am forced to abandon XP, I will probably switch to Debian or Ubuntu and hope WINE is up to the task of running my favourite games. I suspect I won't be alone.
  • Nope, sorry. You're still going to need to waste resources on "defragging". You'll still have all the registry problems too. Joy!
  • Not that I am aware of although MS has been talking about using a new disk filing system for some time now. If I recall when Vista was in the Longhorn stage this was one of the key elements they were touting but was eventually dropped for various reasons. Fragmentation can still occur with OS X as far as I am aware (I think it is called disk optimisation rather than defragmentation)but OS X is much better at file handling so the requirement is much, much rarer than windows systems. I think it also performs some automatic defragging in the background as needed. But I am no expert on Mac, never been a bug fan of Macs. Despite the many failings of windows I am still firmly a PC man. If I did change OS it would be to Linux.
