Genetically, the Ancient Egyptians turn out to be related to both the Semites (Arabs, Jews etc) and the Hamites (Berbers etc), so their DNA doesn't mark them out as anything special. Although the ancient Egyptians (well not really so ancient, at the time of the Greek republics)did preserve the memory of a great volcanic catastophe "beyond the pillars of Hercules: (the story of which was related to the grandfather of the lawgiver Solon), they did not say they were descended from the people inhabiting the destroyed land. It is more likely that "the pillars of hercules mentioned" were not those at Gibraltar, but those near the Black Sea, and that the island we know as Atlantis was Santorini/Thera south of Greece. A known earthquake which destroy this island, wiped out Minoan civilisation. The survivors may well have taken some of their technology with them and passed it on to the Egyptians.

A theory: Atlanteans were the elite of humanity in their time, a sociey made up of the most brilliant and intelligent persons of the era. The technologies they enjoyed would indeed rival and sometimes surpass what we know today. One technology in particular has left us great physical evidence of this society having existed; the ability to generate a magnetic field which would oppose Earth's gravity. Anti gravity vehicles would result out of this technology.
