How about we catch and kill you...that's a better option. We've infringed on their hunting grounds for our own greed, we should stop raising so many dang sheep.

It's actually the worst thing you can do. They are one of the most successful predators in the world and there is a good reason for this. If their numbers are threatened, they change their breeding cycle and all of a sudden you have way more coyotes than you started with. Despite widespread government assisted extermination programs, no one has ever made a dent in their population. To keep them off your property, it's best to keep a large family of baboons. They will learn to stay away.

Live box trap loaded with yummy meat. Oh and a .22 to the head will take care of the kill.

Where I work we sell several different coyote calls, ranging from what actually sound like squeaky toys (for $10!!!) to different electronic calls that make all the ladies in the store squeamish. It seems they don't much care for the sounds of small animals (kittens, rabbits, raccoons) in pain. But they do work well. After that, a .22 will do the job, though some prefer .223 or .177 rifles.

How about don't? Bear in mind, YOU are the one who has encroached upon their territory. The coyote has been in North America since the Pleistocene epoch, long before you decided to live where you do. It's their home more than it is yours. Leave them alone.

In some areas coyotes are not native and have exploded in populations, such as mine and killing them is the only control we have. They have brought down deer populations as well as small animal populations. They carry rabies and in high numbers have become a real threat to the food chain. To answer the question, calls seem to be the best way to lure them in. (raw mwats lure in other scavangers) A rifle of any type will do. The most sure shot is a lung shot just behind the front quarters. Hunting them in our area is open all year round. We keep guns loaded around the chicken coops and the house at the ready 24 hours a day.
