Well if you know anything about history then you know that the Republican and Democratic parties have switched views since the 1800s. The Republicans of those days would now be classified as Democrats and the Democrats would now be classified as Republicans. So in that sense, Limcoln wasa Democrat by todays political standards. Lincoln was also the President that institutes the income tax that Obama is changing (and in my opinion screwing up). So that is why Obama is being compared to Lincoln. Hope this could help.

Good question. It's probably because he comes from the same state where Lincoln lived when he was elected president. I would advise Obama to steer away from that claim. Sure, Lincoln freed the slaves but it wasn't because he believed that blacks were as good as whites. He did it because he thought the southern slaves would revolt and turn on their masters. It was an act of desperation, not humanity. If you read Lincoln's speeches, he makes it clear that he wants the Africans returned to Africa, not integrated into society. Lincoln killed 50 thousand Americans to gain a strong federal government. If that hadn't happened, we probably would have been a country more like Canada than trying to start an American Empire. More than likely, this country would have reconciled with England. World War 1 would have been a regional fight, the Spanish American war wouldn't have happened, and Hitler would not have risen in Germany. Many wars and millions of deaths can be traced directly to Lincoln. In my opinion Lincoln was the greatest American traitor. Benedict Arnold did what he though was right, Lincoln represented military power and death. Obama would be better off compared to Franklin Roosevelt.

The only reason Obama is associated with Lincoln is their home state from which they were elected. Lincoln "freed the slaves" and Obama's part black. I believe that Obama would do well to steer clear of any association with Lincoln. He would do better associating with Franklin Roosevelt. Roosevelt tried to help the country recover from the excesses of Wall St. and the ultra rich. Obama is in the same boat. The U.S. was well into the Civil War before the slaves were freed. The Emancipation Declaration was an act of desperation, not mercy. The slaves were freed in the hope that they would turn on their masters and weaken the south. If you read Lincoln's speeches, you'll see that he intended to send them back to Africa, not integrate them into society. Lincoln was America's greatest traitor. He fought for a strong federal government and power for Washington. If the North lost, slaves would likely have been freed anyway. Slavery was too inefficient for the machine age and public opinion was increasingly against slavery. The Civil War served to sharpen the South's resolve to keep slaves. The majority of Southerners didn't hold slaves but they hated Washington giving them orders. Without the Civil War we would have been a country like Canada and wouldn't have striven for an American Empire. World War 1 would have been limited to a regional conflict; Hitler wouldn't have risen to power; 6 million Jews wouldn't have been murdered; and all of this foolishness in the Middle East would have been avoided. Many wars and millions of deaths can be directly traced to Lincoln.

The political stream flows direct from the emancipation proclamation. Without Abe, there would be no black President, at least not for a while.
