electrician....

A plumber will fix it! if it is buzzing when you turn it on. find the wrench and turn it by hand with it turned off. if it is silent there is a reset buton on the bottom of the motor! press with it off then try it! DO NOT STICK ANYTHING INSIDE THE DRAIN
-
Plumbers are trained to do that.

I would think the job would be more in the field of a plumber.......+5

It's definitely a job for a plumber.

I think first of all you need to check the following: Make sure there is nothing caught in the teeth of the disposal. Do this by first making sure power is secured to the disposal (switch is off). Then reach in and clean everything out by hand, and run your fingertips along the rim where the teeth are at. Even a small piece of broken dish or a small plastic part can cause the disposal to jam up. If you find anything, remove it. You may have to use a broom handle or something to get it loose. When you've done this, make sure you have power to the disposal. Check the circuit breaker for that circuit and verify it's shut. Then look under the sink and find a small button on the side of the disposal (usually red). This is a thermal reset. If the dispoal jams, it will draw a lot of current. If the circuit breaker doesn't trip, the motor will start to overheat. If it gets too hot, the thermal overload will trip. This button will reset that when the motor has cooled enough: Push it in to reset. Then run water in the disposal like normal and flip the switch to see if it will run. Listen to see if you hear the motor hum. If the disposal runs, you're done. If not, listening for the motor to hum will tell you if the disposal is getting power or not. If it still doesn't work, THEN call the plumber. Or a knowledgable friend.

Why not both and have a party? lol

Plumbers take care of the garbage disposal. They plug into an outlet under the sink. If the outlet is bad, electrician. If you do any work on your own, for the love of god, UNPLUG it! The other advise otherwise is pretty spot on. The center bottom of the disposal has a place to put the allen wrench that came with the unit. This is used (instead of a broom handle) to move the motor back and forth to make sure it turns freely. Replacing a disposal is a pretty simple operation if you find a simular unit. A search on the net should turn up instructions. Very basically: Unplug unit, remove drain, turn locking collar. It drops right out. Move the plug to the new unit and install new unit.

Plumber. When my garbage disposol breaks I push the little restart button un the very bottom side, it's the size of a bee bee , and if its not on the side its on the bottom. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself , call the plumber
-
A plumber would be the one to call because if it were the electric nothing else would work on that circuit unless you have it wired by itself and if that is the case the plumber should still be able to determine the source of the problem, If you have a restart button try that, but do not put your hand or any tools in their while turning it on. If it is still dead then yes call a plumber or someone you know that does that kind of thing on the side because plumbers do not do their jobs cheap. Hope that helps and good luck
