  • Feedback to AB staff!OR contact one of the COATs!
  • Get over it then answer another question, ask a question, or comment.
  • I been down-rated all day today and the best way I took care of that problem!...I just went to my (Feedback)and I let the staff take care of those members who are down-rating as to say they are only player-hating.
  • If you believe one particular person is targeting you, document it and report it through feedback or e-mail admin@answerbag.com with your explanation and proof. But in general, what can you do? Nothing. People are going to do it. Always have. Always will. Ignore it. Don't post questions about it. Don't acknowledge it. Giving trolls attention does no good whatsoever. That's exactly what they want. Best thing I ever did was turn off my ratings. I advise that to anybody. Then this won't be an issue at all.
  • Nothing really--particularly if you don't know who's doing it. I've been downrated left and right. Most of the downrating came about on religious issues, so I think it's fair to assume these are religious folks doing the downrating. But that has no bearing whatever on me. They can't stop you; all they can do is a pathetic dr-drive by.
  • 1) there is always a good reason (in the eyes of the person who is down rating). A good reason could be annoying other users... Well, most of us will not find this kind of reason acceptable, but you could imagine why you got some down ratings, maybe you got them because of some other action of yours too. Here I give some reasons for down ratings: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/2650836 2) I don't mind so much down ratings, as long as my overall point amount on a question or answer stays positive. Getting an overall negative point amount gives me the impression that my contribution has been negative. I consider that it is generally not the case (but meanings could differ about this) I would not do anything about isolated down ratings. In the case of intensive, injustified down ratings, I would make a feedback (use Feedback link at the bottom of the page). Alternatively you could try to get some attention just like you are doing with this question, or tell someone in a comment thread that you have a trolling problem and if they can have a look at your downrated submissions. Some users have displayed a willingness to help in such cases: the COAT club. 3) If someone were asking you for help, I would not just give them a few up ratings, I would check if I personally find that the downrate was not justified. I could also have a look at other answers to the same questions. The goal is certainly to help, but we should also respect the work of other answerers. Sometimes, a down rater makes several down ratings on a question.
  • If you see that you are getting a lot of DRs, and by that I mean 8-15 DRs on different posts, not many on one post, then you can write to the Staff via the Feedback button or if it's really bad and the Staff still haven't stopped it, find a community leader and ask them to bring it to the Staff's attention. But it can't just be a few DRs. It has to be what they call here 'vindictive downrating'. Then the Staff can check the records and see if there is one person doing it and penalty box that person.
