yes and it was proven on myth busters http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MythBusters_%28season_2%29 Talking to Plants Myth statement Status Notes Talking helps plants grow. Plausible Seven small greenhouses were set up on the M5 Industries roof. Four were set up with stereos playing endlessly looping recordings (as having the Mythbusters actually talk to the plants could contaminate the samples with their expelled carbon dioxide): Two of negative speech, two of positive speech (Kari and Scottie each made one positive and one negative soundtrack), a fifth with classical music and a sixth with intense death metal music. A seventh greenhouse, used as a control sample, had no stereo. The greenhouses with the recordings of speech grew better than the control, regardless of whether such talk was kind or angry. The plants in the greenhouse with the recording of classical music grew better, while the plants in the greenhouse with the recording of intense death metal grew best of all. See also: Masaru Emoto.

If you talk to a plant up close, the extra co2 from your breath will help your plant grow.
-
I think it does but I don't know of any scientific proof.
-
According to the Mythbusters, it does.
-
Yes, bore them half to death and the fact you never water them is why they are almost dead.
-
Apparently, yes. Plants breathe in he air we expel...and we breathe in the air they expel.
-
I saw a thing about a guy growing huge tomatoes by waking them wear earphones with music. Onthe other hand, because it's on TV, doesn't make it true... I know they breathe what we exhale and vice versa, so talking or just breathing arround them should work.

G'day sleidman, Thank you for your question. Yes, it makes your neigbours look at you strangely. :>) Seriously, scientists say that if you are talking to your plants, you are probably placing close attention to them. In other words, you are watering them regularly and noticing if they have pests. While they might get a quick dose of carbon dioxide from your breath, this is probably of minimal importance. I have attached sources for your reference. Source: http://members.tripod.com/~Royce3/Et__cetera/Talking_To_Plants/talking_to_plants.html It tells me: 1. About an experiment that has been done by some P6 students. How they did the experiment: Pea plants were started from seed on December 21, 1999 The seedlings were transplanted on January 6, 2000 All plants were placed in the same size pot, with the same amount of soil, and given the same amount of water at the same time. The plants were placed in a window that faced a greenhouse. Two plants were in each group. Group A was the control group Group B listened to negative thoughts for 5 minutes at a time, twice a day Group C listened to positive thoughts for 5 minutes at a time, twice a day Groups B and C plants were taken into a closet for the talk, and then returned to the window. The same students were used throughout the experiment, one for positive talk, and one for negative. 2. Results: RESULTS GROUP A GROUP B GROUP C Height Height Height 1/10/2000 Plant #1 8.5 cm 8.5 cm 7.5 cm Plant #2 10.0 cm 10.5 cm 12.5 cm 1/13/2000 Plant #1 8.5 cm 8.5cm 7.8 cm Plant #2 11.5 cm 10.5 cm 12.9 cm 1/18/2000 Plant #1 9.0 cm Dead 8.0 cm Plant #2 Dead 12.1 cm 14.0 cm 1/21/2000 Plant #1 9.0 cm Dead 8.0 cm Plant #2 Dead 12.1 cm 14.0 cm Overall gain Plant #1 0.5 cm *** 0.5 cm in height Plant #2 **** 1.6 cm 1.5 cm 3. (Said like a cheer) "Try to touch the sky" "You're the best plant in the world" "Try your best at growing" "You're so pretty with your light green, dark green and green colors" Negative Talk "Die you nasty plants, die" "You are the worst plants in the world" "Die you worthless pieces of green seeds" "You are so ugly when you are standing up, so fall over and don't get up" "You are so ugly when you're green, and you wouldn't be ugly if you were brown and falling over" Note: The two boys who talked to the plants were given no instruction on what to say, other than it had to be positive talk, or negative talk. They talked to the same plants twice a day for five minutes each time. Once before 8:15 am, and the second time around noon each day, Monday through Friday.

I've heard this as well as music helps them. I am pretty sure they say classical music is the best choice, obviously no heavy metal (my plants are in trouble!)
-
I think it does i planted a Wistera and for 6 years it didnt flower,i gave it a good telling off saying if it didnt flower this year i was replacing it with a Jasmine....cascades of beautiful pink flowers appeared so it didnt want the chop lol.

I'd recommend positive talk vs. the negative talk to encourage them to grow. Try some classical music as well.

I heard it was the vibration of the music that stimulated the plants.

I think the reason they may grow better when you talk to them is because you are giving them more attention. You can check for insects, need for water, fertilizer, etc. The amount of CO2 in our breath for a short time shouldn't make much difference. Burning a candle would be of more benefit for CO2 production.
