  • I used to know the name of those curls, escapes me now, but I think you're meaning those ones that go back and forth, close, nearly flat, to the head? The way you can do that yourself is with bobby pins, first pushes back on the forhead, next pushes forward, toward the eyes, back and forth like that. I tried it for a halloween costume once. Was really hard for me to do, but I'm sure it would be easier with practice. They also used setting gel. A hairdresser would know if it was possible to perm. Good luck
  • BeenAround has nailed it...it wasn't so much perms being used, but bobby pins, and the hair goop of the day! The concept/mentality of the Flapper was spontaneous and FUN...think PARTY GIRL! The short straight cuts were intended to be very fine and while short they would still be flirty and move with the movement of the head. (flow) If curls were being used they might bounce as in a ringlet style, OR be very controlled in contrast to the flowing, dancing garments. Your hair would need to be above the shoulders...to show off your neck, which in a perfect world...would be long and slender..,swan like. If you want to do "spit curls" get some Bobby Pins, wrap your hair about your finger (your short hair that is), and pin it with two Bobby Pins the pins in a X over the curl. Sleep on that over night, and let it loose in the morning. For the ringlet look try a curling iron, and for the straight chic look...a really good cut (in the period style) is IT...you can add the side curls (on on each by the ear curling towards the face) with hair gel...of a max holding type! Have fun!
  • ahhh im trying to do the same thing. i swear i found a look one time where they used bobby pins and just kep[t in in thier hair like that. but i dont remember now. i found that if you use regular hair curlers and a hell of alot of hairspray you can get the look you want. hope this helps! good luck!
