  • Hi Marguerite. I appreciate that you ask something about Cy Twomby. He is an artist I like a lot. It is difficult, however, to organize his work in periods. His basic painterly method was defined very early (around the early 1960s), and from then, he created a large body of work in a consistent fashion. There are some groups of paintings that are closely related to each other (such as the grey paintings with chalk drawing on them, for instance), but they do not represent clearly defined periods in his work. He came back to several ideas at various times during his career. I would recommend to leaf through the Catalogue raisonné by Heiner Bastian (4 volumes, published by Schirmer/Mosel - a fifth volume is in preparation). Maybe a library in your vicinity has a copy (It costs ore than 1000 USD to buy). There is also a catalogue raisonné of the sculpture.
