Help answer this question below.
Make sure you save enough money during the month (take a quarter from your paycheck each week) so you can pay each and every month on time. Good credit is great to have. Good luck and congrats on your newfound freedom.
Two words. Renters insurance.
Take pictures of the inside of the apartment so you have proof when you're ready to move out that you didn't damage anything.
Trouble gave you my advice......renters insurance. It provides coverage for your personal property AND personal liability. I am an insurance agent...it's not expensive. But, I also recommend that you video tape, or take pictures, of your major items......keep the tape or pictures off site.
Read the contract...! Take care as to what your legal requirements are, and what the landlords are..!
You'll need a months deposit with your 1st months payment (in advance) and electricity will want a whopping deposit too (oh - and water.!)
Always pay your rent in full, on time.
Don't have noisy parties.
Respect your neighbors.
Don't leave your clothes in the laundry room unattended.
You have gotten mostly good advice, but here are some common problems that you can avoid if you know about them in advance:
1) Do not make any changes to the property unless you have WRITTEN permission from the landlord. Even if you are “upgrading” something, you are responsible for returning the property in its original condition.
2) Do not pay rent in cash, or if you do, get AND KEEP receipts. Make sure the receipts are dated.
3) This was already said, but take pictures of everything before you move in, and right when you move out.
4)Remember, that we are in a renters market. There is so much inventory available, you have a lot of leverage in negotiating. With this said, remember that nothing in the rental agreement is “standard.” If you don’t like a provision, then negotiate.
Take Pictures of any flaws when you get in that way you can attempt to get Funds back when you make that deposit
Yes, that's a nice question infact I would call it a intelligent question. You should have enough information about the pros and cons of giving your apartment on rent.
