Theres no rule against it - they simply CANNOT deal with what it takes! Well, maybe one or two, but they're busy throwing shot put or discs . I say line em' up and let them try their best...any of them that can get though training camp -Let em play ! lol

On March 30, 1934, a woman named Babe Didrikson pitched one inning in an exhibition game for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Boston Red Sox. She gave up 4 hits and 3 runs.
Interestingly, the general manager at the time was Branch Rickey. This is the same man who initiated Jackie Robinson into his Dodgers' organization a little over a decade later.

Not as of 2007. No woman has the skills required yet.

There is no actual rule saying that women can't play in the MLB. Looking back in baseball history there has been many times were a certain group of people have been not able to play. ( i.e. blacks, hispanics, and asians) So maybe in time and as our society develops we may see women playing. There has been a few times were women have played in college and regional games. But sexist people won't stop and change their opinion for the fact of equality of this sort. There needs to be an ice breaker like Jackie Robinson but is not likely in the near future. So the plain answer to your question is yes women can play MLB if they can get past the biased baseball officals.

the question is whether or not the rules allow women to play, not if they have the ability. if a scout finds a girl with great fielding skills and she has great bat control and speed to get lots of singles and doubles, is the scout allowed to sign her?

    Yes,

Major League Baseball formally banned the signing of women to contracts on June 21, 1952. The ban lasted until 1992 when Carey Schueler was "drafted" by the Chicago White Sox for the 1993 season.

@leoncjr "dead people on the diamond"? Aside from one guy who had a heart attack, and one guy who got hit the head before helmets, I don't know that baseball is a deadly sport. Women are certainly not at risk of death by baseball any more than a man is. Women are not inherently weaker and "will get hurt" any more than any given male baseball player.

@canbfrisky "they simply cannot deal with what it takes"? really? since when? there might not be many female power hitters, but then there aren't that many power hitters in the game anyway. there are quite a few players who never hit home runs in their career. "any of them that can get through training camp" shouldn't be too hard if they play baseball, or at least, any harder than any male who plays all his life and shows up in the Spring. Training camp isn't really that grueling.

I say women can, and should, play professional baseball in the same leagues as men. I don't see any reason or obstacle to their playing ball except public opinion. I personally believe someday they will, and hope I see it. And soon.
