usually people go for someone they look like, because that means they have similar social standings, similar upbringing and similar tastes. they also go for people with different genes then them (this is hardwired into humans to help perpetuate our own race through new mixes of genes in our children, because it makes each new generation stronger than the last IE survival of the fittest) and truthfully theres at least several people out there for everyone if not hundreds that would fit the bill, fall in love easily and be happy together.
