  • They do? I've never opened my mouth while putting masscara on. I know a fair bit of people who do and it probably just makes it easier to put the masscara on.
  • Not always, see here:
  • Ehh I'm not a mascara fan.. but here is why it happens sometimes: When taking the wand and putting it to our eyes, we extend our face (specifically eyes and lids). That's because when your eyes are opened in a normal fashion, the lid is bunched up and can get some of the residue on it (which wouldn't be so appealing, now would it?. But if you extend your eyes open, your forehead will move up and bunch up. Now you can prevent this from getting black stuff all over your lid. You'll notice that as you pick up your face and eyes (some women just look up), your upper lip slightly moves. I think it's just a natural reaction to completely open it from this point.
  • I learned to do it because my mother did. Or I saw it in commercials. Or movies. Such pressure to look a certain way WHILE we apply the make-up. :o) I have to agree with Hellokiddo...it was to do with positioning of the face for the best application. My mouth feels like it "wants" to open when I tilt my head up and back a little and raise my eye browns - it is actually harder for me to keep it closed!
  • Very funny question. I'd like to say I do it to stretch my face, but I honestly think it's more of a concentration thing, like sticking your tongue out while coloring.
  • I actually do the same thing when I put eye cream on. It helps stretch out the skin and keeps the eye open.
  • Yappers?
  • I never have my mouth open when applying mascara. it's this stupid myth that chicks can't put on mascara and close their mouths at the same time. i can do it with my mouth shut. or maybe i'm superwoman? it's a possability!
  • ...and drive! Talk about multitasking yo...
  • I do not!!!
  • I don't have my mouth open when I put my mascara on.
  • Maybe they're afraid to breath through their nose... maybe the stuff stinks or something. Or maybe they wish they were doing something else instead...lol! Sorry.
  • I join the majority of women here that put on their mascara without opening their mouth. I think girls do that when they tilt their heads back too much, to see their eyelashes better. In this case it just feels natural to let the mouth open. If you just open your eyes wider, you won't have to move your head and open your mouth.
  • I have my mouth open when i apply mascara but I dont consciously think 'Oh im going to put on my mascara i better open my mouth'
  • tightens the skin around your eyes
  • i do, but don't have to. it helps with concentration... i think it gives us something else to do with our faces to make them stay still
  • I do it too. Like AnonymousGirlie says, it helps with concentration. It's along the same lines as when you see someone (especially kids) with their tongue hanging out of their mouths while concentrating on something.
