  • Don't know about it being illegal, but I've never been to a place that doesnt make sure tables have carafes of water available (and refilled upon request for free). I'm in NZ.
  • Bars have a right to charge for water as a safety privider that people have not sneaked their booze into the bar and mixing it with water. Also, they can refuse free water at a bar to up the amount of drinks sold.
  • They imposing the fee because they want you to buy a beverage. Probably to cover the overhead of a band or entertainment.
  • Get two big glasses of ice and let them melt. Now you have water and no cost. Sounds ridiculous to me. Whats behind it?
  • It would be illegal in the UK, not in the Netherlands. I think the "free tap water" rules started in the UK after a couple of people died. They were on ecstasy and probably would of survived if they'd drank lots of water.
