its part of the cannibus family that contains no thc, so it wont come up on a drug test and does smell like pot. However its effects are little more than tabacco. Hope this helped!

Salvia is a drug like cannabis that people smoke to get high. I'd be worried if your kid's doing Salvia. It's a plant that gives you hallucinations. As far as I know, no deaths have been caused by it, and it's supposed to be harmless; basically something your average teenager would do just to see 'what it's like'. If you're a cool parent, you'll tell your kid the risks instead of jumping down his throat, cutting his pocket money, etc. If you're a cool parent, you'll educate your kid until he doesn't want to do it for his _own_ reasons, not yours.

It's a sacred plant of native indians. They believe it's an incarnation of Virgin Mary. Salvia is used to treat many deseases and is the strongest natural haliucinogen in small doses it causes a meditative state, in large doses the effects are very different for everyone, but most people who do drugs just for fun don't like it and don't want to tryit again.

Okay I'm a teen who use to use pot. If my mom found out I'd be in deep trouble and would feel really stupid. About Salvia- it's not illegal for people over 18 to have. they sell it in hed shops (smoking paraphernalia stores) and online. It gets you to have mild hallucinations for like 20- 60 minutes. it's not very serious because anyone with a credit card can get it. But if I were a parent I'd be really mad if my kid had some. It is so easy for teens to get stuff like that. I was able to walk into almost any hed shop from the age of 14 and ask for anything and they would be like " your 18 right ?" and I'd just say "yeah- left my id at home". Any senior at their school could get it for them. About the drug test- it might have been a cheap one that might not have worked so well. He may have just had a friend over who smoked in his room. I wouldn't be all crazy about it. Try to be understanding and don't go snooping around behind his back. Sit the kid down and talk with them. You can be angry and punish them without pissing them off. Be rational. Think about what you would want if you were in their position. Don't let them get away with it. they do need to be punished if they are using drugs. Good luck. Pot really isn't that bad. you do need to freak out if they use shrooms or coke. That is when it gets dangerous because 80 of shrooms are actually normal mushrooms laced with LSD (acid)

If he's old enough to make a decision rather or not he wants to smoke marijuana he's old enough to be responsible for him self. I surely hope you don't you feel better because he's smoking salvia just because of it's legal status. Regardless of it's legal status if you actually see what people are like on Salvia trust me you'd MUCH rather have him smoking marijuana. Of course no parent has the desire to see their child pick up any type of drug and experiment with it, my mom included. When she found out I smoked marijuana she wasn't necessarily hurt because she does it her self, just more shocked. But here's a video of a guy smoking Salvia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHVHqCQH0_U and just click the link that "The Boobs" supported linking to Wikipedia's article on Salvia, and here's another link http://erowid.org/plants/salvia/salvia.shtml Just let him be a teenager, marijuana is fun and harmless...that's what they do. Hell that's what we do :D.

Salvia is legal, yes. My personal experience of it has been with 20x strength extract, which was incredibly intense, so I cannot really speak for your kid if he's just done the leaf. Salvia is harmless in its pharmacology but if too much is taken it can be very dangerous in that it's too easy to hurt yourself. When on salvia it's important to have a "sober sitter"- someone to make sure your physical body stays safe while you travel to a different dimension and meet strange new entities. Educate yourself with the following site: http://www.erowid.org http://erowid.org/plants/salvia/salvia.shtml keep this site handy, it's a non-biased record of basically every single psychoactive drug. It includes basic facts, dose and legal information, chemistry information, pharmacological information (in some cases), off site resources, and personal experience reports that those who have used the drug write themselves and submit. Salvinorin A (the active compound in salvia divinorum) is a very short acting drug, and so the hallucinations that one would experience of them would not last long. The driving aspect of your Teen's life is not a concern with Salvia unless he's dumb enough to drive on drugs. If your teen is going to experiment with drugs there isn't much you can do except make sure he's safe about it. Don't freak out over salvia... Lay down some guidelines about drug use- no illegal drugs in the house, no driving under the influence, keep it away from me, etc., because telling him a strict "no drugs, ever" and then having him sneak away and lie to you about where he is and what he's doing is not only worse than knowing he does drugs, but it's also dangerous.

Salvia is NOT at ALL like Marijuana. The only similarities are that they are both smoked. BUT salvia you only take one or 2 good tokes and that's it, because you won't be able to do more than that if you're inhaling it correctly. Salvia is for the most part harmless as far as we know. probably less harmful than cigerettes. *BUT* You have to have a certain mindset or frame of mind. The active agents in salvia trigger the part of your brain that gives you dreams while you are sleeping. Only you have Very Little conscious control, if any, over your hallucinations. Hallucinations happen suddenly, sometimes even before you exhale. If you aren't prepared, it is hard to know the difference between the dream state and reality. Often, the user has a feeling like they won't 'come back' to reality. What may seem like hours to them, may really only be is 5 mins or so, because the effects only last 5 to 10 mins. After 'coming down', they might seem a little confused as to process what happened. It's not for everyone. It's not an addictive substance. It's not a recreational drug. It's not a Party drug. Young people might do it at parties, but only because they think its like pot and its new and different and 'cool' to them. Most people who experiment with it, only try it once or twice and won't touch it again. It can be a pretty intense experience. After an intense salvia journey, people tend to look at life from a different perspective. Indians and shamans use it as a spiritual herb. I wouldn't recommend it for just anyone.

Salvia isn't bad. I smoke it occasinoally, and i'm 18. i'm very much against drug use and drinking, but i'm ok with salvia because it's not actually a drug and it has no perminent side affects. It won't hurt him and he can't get phsically addicted. My friends and I did a lot of research on he plant just to make sure that it wasnt going to get us in trouble or arm us in any way. I wouldn't be worried about him. He shouldn't legally get in trouble for possesing it. If you are that worried about him, though, do research yourself. A lot of the things you'll find are going to be about memditation. I doubt if he is smoking the upper levels of it, so the most it'll do is make him laugh uncontrollably... and since when is laughing a bad thing?
