It depends... I hate store bought cakes the thick icing is so nasty. Those big beautiful flowers and stuff like that where there's more frosting than cake. That's no good. I'd rather straight up Betty Crockerize it and add the frosting and some sprinkles. MMMMM sprinkles...

depends...I can think of a few alternate uses for icing that I prefer, but if the icing is on the cake, I prefer them together. The icing is the perfect sweet bit of balance to a rich, moist cake
