People like to state their opinions.

They aren't any rules against it, and they are more likely to get people talking than "normal" factual-based questions. That's my opinion anyway.

I think a lot of the questions are opinion based b/c if you asked a general knowledge question, many would have the same answer and one wouldn't bother answering the question b/c you would know it was the same answer as you would have given. Fact-based questions can be googled by yourself.
