  • An SLR camera is a Single Lens Reflex camera. The main difference between an SLR and a Rangefinder or Point-n-shoot is that instead of looking through a "viewfinder", which is basically just a window in the camera, you are looking through the lens, that is, you are seeing exactly what the camera is seeing. Other differences are that with most SLR's you can interchange lenses, add external flashes, have complete control over Aperture size, and shutter speeds.
