Well you need to understand more about aliens! Have you any idea just how much it cost these days to fly across the galaxy? Even interstellar travel is getting dearer these days and only the race of clingons from the canker planet can afford to travel around a heap.

I think it's a conspiracy by the Government. Where I live suppose if the Government is going to make a big faulty decision purposely for their own profit, they almost always divert the public attention to something else by creating a hyphe. I think the same happens there. Moreover, attitudes are catching. Once someone starts on something, it keeps spreading like wildfire while when someone looses interests, everyone else does. This is just how humans function, I guess.

Aliens come and go all the time, this is a wayward stop for refueling.

I think external forces to the arguement for their actual existance has a big part to play. Hollywood has always been linked to 'flaps' after a commercially sucessful film is released. It is worth noting for example that 'greys' only started to 'appear' after the film Close Encounters Of The Third Kind was released. Before this, descriptions of alien beings were very different indeed.
