I think Obama has already insulted EVERYONE not of a darker skin color.

I'm British, and I think it was an insult to our Prime Minister not our people. I'm not a big fan of Gordon Brown, but after all the British government has done backing the US he deserved better.

I have just found this about the gifts. After taking flak for returning a bust of Winston Churchill, President Obama is giving some British mementos prominent homes in and near the Oval Office. In a 10-minute phone call Wednesday, Obama thanked British Prime Minister Gordon Brown for dropping off the gifts Tuesday when he visited the White House, according to an official release. The unusually-detailed readout on the call said Obama has put a pen holder taken from the HMS Gannet on his Oval Office desk, known as the Resolute desk. The statement also said a first-edition biography of Churchill, the legendary World War II British premier, has been placed in the president’s private study just outside the Oval. The British press had interpreted the return of the Churchill bust, which sat in the Oval Office for nearly seven years before being returned, as a signal that Obama did not value his relationship with Brown and Britain as highly as President Bush valued his ties to Brown’s predecessor, Tony Blair. Obama aides said the notion was ridiculous, but they have since bent over backwards to demonstrate Obama’s friendliness and appreciation for Brown.

1) I'm surprised that I had to go to AB to find out about it. But then, not THAT surprised. 2) Once I read up on it. Yes, I am disgusted by my President's behavior. The actions of him and his wife were inexcusable. Geez Louise. For what it is worth, I apologise upon behalf of my country to all you Brits.

When someone gives a gift with the expectation that they'll get one of equal value in return, they aren't really giving a gift at all. When they grouse about it, they're even more disingenuous in their giving. It's the British and right-wing American press that's blowing this out of proportion. Not the British and American governments nor most of their respective citizens. I have no doubt as to my respect and loyalty to the British people, nor do I have any doubt as to the President's respect and loyalty to the British people. I'm sure this gaffe will soon be overcome.

tellitlikeitis: The reason why they are not giving you much information about whats happening in Iraq & Afghanistan is because the casualties are much too high.They will be remembering Vietnam when the media reported too much and it started the anti Vietnam protests and people burnt their drafts cards.We in the UK have the same problem with our press as they never give the full facts.We have had well over 2,500 wounded in both wars.They sneak the wounded back into the UK at night at East Midlands Airport so no one can see our lads been brought back.Then they spread them out to hospitals all over the country.in the two conflicts there have been more than 300 amputations of limbs and some of them were double.Its not in the interests of public moral to report such things.We have a standing army of 98,000 and these soldiers are being overworked.

I cant wait to see the Humiliation on everyones face that claimed Obama is gonna save us when hes accumulated more dept in hes short time in office than any American President in the history of the US. Now i wonder how thats gonna save us?

When my friend told me about this we both shared a deep disgust for his actions. I hope they (Brits) know that his actions do not represent the American people.

I think obama is the worse thing to happen to America period and he is a total FOOL and the other countries know this. They want America to elect the fool and the people who voted for him did.

First of all, we are in the US neither my husband or I heard about this! I'm shocked?? They arent publicizing it here for whatever reason? I read some of the articles posted here but I am still really confused by this??? So people are upset because he gave back a statue of Winston Churchill and put up one of Lincoln instead?? So they are making it like a race thing?? I cant seem to understand where exactly the insult lies. Maybe he was trying to get rid of everything related to George W?? And there was no insult meant?? I dont see any quotes here, did he SAY something offensive?? If anyone has any other info or links please share, I may just not have all the facts...

Not in the slightest. Everyone in the Uk knows the 'special relationship' is a joke. Since when has it been anything other than USA shouts & the Uk jumps with little or nothing in return. At least he's being honest!
