What is scope of IBM Mainframe especially the Languages such as cobol,DB2,JCL & VSAM?

    It is still totally scalable especially with an AS400 adjunct network with PPN. This network is at odds with anything using the OSI model but a level 2 switch can easily tunnel IBM type data through an IP network. If your AS400 networks are in a different location, they can be fooled by spoofing. This equipment is here for the long haul. The businesses that bought into these networks have no intention of giving them up or the lauguages they use. Quite a few of the largest private networks in the country are still exactly the network you describe.

    Another alternative transport method is Geomax. But that's a bit pricey.

    So the challenge is mixing proprietary and open protocols. As long as there's money to be made, someone will figure out how to make it work.
