Love my older Jeep Cherokee! Can haul a bunch of stuff (try 16 cases of wine and keep them cool) ran as a support vehicle, pit chaser for our Baja Bug high desert race car, and can take four of us comfortably to dinner out!

i like hummers and toyotas but the only hummer you going to get for under 40k is a base h3 so my votes for the good ole wrangler, the rubi would be best but that might break the 40k limit. i'm not positive though.

I think the older CJs are awesome and can outdo most vehicles, especially with some changes for offroad. You can do a lot to them for $40K.

As far as stock, 4x4 FJ Cruiser, if you have not driven one, you cant say much, I have owned both the Jeep and FJ Cruiser, Just bought the 2011 8 months ago, 32k loaded

Surplus military HMMWV aka Humvee. You can pick them up for around 25K depending on the condition. Most are Desert Storm era. They usually come complete with bullet and frag holes! lol
