Yes. I enrolled for a typewriting and shorthand course in 1965, when I was 13 years old. I learned typing the systematic way till I gained enough speed on a manual typewriter. Shorthand I gave up after the first week, though. The system I attempted to learn was called 'Pitman's Shorthand'.
