  • I think it is mandatory that they touch all the bases on the way round; hence you see people hitting walk-off homers in postseason games and fans flooding the field to mob them and the player having to dodge round everyone to stepon each bag. So I would expect that if he broke his ankle turning round 1st base then it would be credited as a single and a pinch runner would come in and take his place on the base after he was carried off. I don't know if there is a time limit within which a home run hitter has to make it round all the bases back to home plate... if there isn't then maybe he would still be able to crawl round, or someone could come out and help him round... maybe there is an element of umpires discretion in HOW he gets around the bases that would enable him to complete the home run somehow... but I am absolutely sure that he has to physically go round all the bases and touch them all for the home run to count, so I'm saying NO.
  • As far as I know..A player has to touch all of the bases..But if it was me who just went yard, I'd crawl around the bases
  • this actually happaned last year. i forget who hit the home run, but gabe kapler was on second, he returned to tag up on second, then upon seeing the ball go out, he turned back around and blew his achilles tendon. the guy who hit the homer waited on second while kapler was tended to, and they eventually put in a pinch runner, who completed the jog
