  • If you mean "What kind of damage can fuel gel do?" then I would say "Stop messing with napalm :P" Gel fuel can cause absolutely --horrific-- damage to anything it touches if it ignites... It doesn't come off until it's scraped off, or burnt off (rubbing it just spreads it, pouring water over it just spreads it) Erm, other than that I'm not really sure what you mean though... Elaborate?
  • I'm sorry, I mean once its thawed if a fuel tank can it still run through the filter and engine? It's gonna have water in it once it thaws through condensation so the filters gonna have to be changed alot. but is it gonna burn in the motor like it should? or creat more problems?
  • what u due is to prevent the system from gelling is use some 911 fuel additive to prevent this but if it has already gelled let it thaw out change the fuel filter drain a little fuel from the bottom of the fuel tank that will tell u that theres water in the fuel then prime the system and start it it should run fine after
  • It doesn't really do much damage to your truck as long as you let it thaw before you try and run the truck. However i dont suggest letting it happen all the time. To much gelling can cause damage to ur fuel lines or system. You can use diesel 911 to help the process in de thawing or prevent gelling. Also u need to put a big heater on it I.E a propane burning heater diesel etc. Try and cover key points.. fuel tank, motor. Allowing the heat to directly contact it. Once its thawed change out the fuel filter and prime the system. To prime pour fuel into the fuel bowl or new filter then install it. If You can drain some fuel out of the bottom of your tank. If not start your truck then bleed the fuel water seperator.
  • The best method is to stop the gelling happening. Additives are an option, as discussed above, but another good option is a universal preheater that you put on the metal filter housing to convert it into a heating element. http://www.etipinc.com
  • i make bio diesel which will gel before normal diesel geling will block in filter but once warm will go back to normal the only damage i can think is may split the pipes if expands but i dont think so but with the bio diesel i make i add 200ml coldfow to 50litres bio diesel and it wont gel to about -25 as i have tested it in my freezer
  • I also make my own fuel. weather or not diesel fuel that has jelled will damage your engine or fuel system largely depends on your system in particular. If you got an old system with a mechanical injector pump and mechanical injectors, it shouldn't do anything damaging, but may not run very well. on a newer system with heui injectors or common rail injection that may be another story as the injector ports are microscopic in size, and would tend to clog and cause problems. The shelf life of diesel is about 9 months after that it starts growing alge, this stuff can get in your tank and continue to grow, and cause problems. Its best just to use a diesel fuel additive for non jelling in winter and avoid the whole thing.
