  • It is a Russian surname, and unfortunately, I do not know what it means. First names I found associated with this surname are Anatoly, Marina, Nina (possibly a nickname for Marina), Anna, Nikolai, Sergei (pronounced surrGUY), Yelena, Irina, Ludmila, and Olga. There are very few GUSHINA individuals living in the United States at present -- or ever, for that matter. I checked U.S. Census records back for over 100 years, and there were scarcely any GUSHINAs. You could try calling a Russian Orthodox Catholic church and finding out if the priest speaks Russian, or knows someone who does, who might be able to tell you what GUSHINA means. There is a very similar name of Italian origin, GIUSHINA, but it is not a common name either. If you are searching for immigration records, you may have to search many alternate spellings. Good luck; hope this was helpful. :)
