Well I know the best way to lose a best friend: move in with them.

I agree with this. If you can't afford to just GIVE the person the money, then don't do it.

Definately .... I've loaned several FRIENDS $$$$$ and after waitng and waiting past the time it was due to be paid back .... then asking for it ; They were PISSED and acted like I had punched them or something .... SO ; long too late I learned NOT to Loan .. So; I do NOT loan anymore $$$$$ it just cost too much in other ways ...

many of them have a way of getting themselves lost after such a transaction. I figure that It is a good idea to find out who your real friends are and a small price to pay to get rid of the ones who no longer want to be.

Very true as some friends find It easy to borrow money and when It's time to pay-up they find It difficult to return what they borrowed and that's when the problems begin.

Basically I've just learned that if a friend approaches you for money, only give it if you can afford to and are in the mindset to think of it as a gift. That way, if you get it back, it's a happy surprise and if you don't it's only what you expected.
