I would say almost certainly that it is a German name. There are a number of sites on the net which trace families of this name and they are all German: familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/k/u/t/Hans-C-Kutter/index.html www.genealogy.com/users/k/u/t/index.html Try putting the words Kutter family into google and see what comes up. You might find someone tracing your line, as there are some people in Wisconsin, Missouri and North Dakota tracing Kutter families. You need to go backwards from yourself, however, to find out where you are from, putting together detailed information on each generation until you arrive at your immigrant ancestor.
