Excellent comedic writer. His style is distinctive, once you've read a couple of his books. In Good Omens, which he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman, you can tell the parts where Terry carried the load. Gaiman's good at posing pseudo-deep philosophical maunderings, but lousy at making a joke. Pratchett's early works are somewhat painful for me to read, especially the one about the company that makes planets. He didn't find his voice until he developed his own universe (Discworld).

I like him in principle but he kind of grates on me after awhile. It's a particular niche of English Self-Referential Humour I think is kind of played out now. The kind of writer who has to stop the action once every chapter to explain How The World Works to us. Time to find a new schtick. Gaiman is much the same with the explanations but his characters and plot devices at least vary. American Gods was very good.

A very popular and successful fantasy fiction writer.

Fun fun and more fun. especially if you read i in the toilet.

One of the few authors whose books (Discword series) I can reread within a fairly short space of time, and still appreciate. His books are funnier when I'm depressed or loopy-tired, though.
-
I have read them all, including his latest, of course. I think the Discworld string started to fray in his last 3-4 books. I thoroughly enjoyed the series with the above exceptions.

So far I have only read Good omens, but i think it's good and want to start on the diskworld series.

I love him! the humour is sooo english and the stories are just great! my recently read are Thud!, Going Postal and Jingo. Sam Vimes and Rincewind are the best... for those of you interested: the danish interpretors are doing a lousy job...Terry Pratchett isn't popular at all, where I come from. I'm just glad I found him;)
