I'm not sure about that, but if that is the case then ebay falls into exploitation as well. I see pawn shops and ebay as the same with a few exception. Ebay has a larger audience and you can sell more than you could in a pawn shop.

Pawn Brokers are running a business. They lend money against security. It is similar to what banking business. It is usually those who have no access to bank loans that go to the pawn brokers for small loans with whatever security they can offer. Such customers often fail to repay their loans and end up loosing the secuity pledged. It is a legal business that pawn brokers are doing. How can their business be labeled as exploiting the poor? They do their business same as any other.

Pawn shops are good for thieves and people who "find stuff". No one in their right mind would sell their stuff to a pawn shop. The only one coming out on the deal is the pawn shop unless you didn't pay anything for what your selling. I wouldn't buy anything from a pawn shop cause of this.

Don't like the way pawnshops do business? Do not pawn. Don't like the way payday lenders set loan terms? Do not borrow from them. Poor? Get a second job, or a third one. I have. Want to get ahead? Pay your dues, especially if young. Serve the country and earn your higher education. I did. Made bad decisions when young? Work 3 jobs, save money, drop back to 2 jobs and enroll at community college. I used to teach there and saw people turn themselves around that way.
