  • whom ever did your taxes, if you did them go to H&R block they can find the mistake
  • If you owe any back child support, fines or any other amounts owed to the state or federal governments, the IRS will deduct that amount from your refund. Try the "Where's my refund" link on the IRS website to see if it tells you anything (http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96596,00.html?portlet=4) or call them (1-800-829-1040) to determine why they did not send you the entire amount and then you can find out what the next step is.
  • You should be getting a letter as to why the difference..usually the letter comes before the refund does so you have a head's up before. Probably should go back to the tax preparer and have them take a look at their input vs the actualy documents; perhaps your federal withholding was $3500 and the input to the computer was "$5300", for example, leading you to believe you were getting a larger refund than you really were due...or call the irs 1-800-829-1040 with a hands-free phone and a good book to read and be prepared to wait and wait and wait and wait!
  • Pay off any debt you have.
  • IF ITS TIED IN WITH THE IRS. I SUGGEST YOU WRITE THEM A LETTER OR EMAIL THEM.
