  • The Crankshaft Sensor on your 03' Hemi 5.7 is located on the rear of the block on the passengers side, just below the exhaust manifold. Similar issues caused by the Camshaft Positioning Sensor also, that is located also on the passenger's side of engine in the front, deep under the alternator in the same aluminum housing the alternator is mounted in. Both sensors slide into a round hole and have a single bolt off to the side of sensor holding them in.
  • Crankshaft Sensor Item#: ECHCSS9197 Price: $119.00 what is the paper shim (part No. 5252229) CAUTION: Before tightening sensor mounting bolt, be sure sensor is completely flush to cylinder block. If sensor is not flush, damage to sensor mounting tang may result. TORQUE 12 Nm 9 Ft.Lbs 105 In. Lbs The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is mounted into the right rear side of the cylinder block. It is positioned and bolted into a machined hole. Engine speed and crankshaft position are provided through the crankshaft position sensor. The sensor generates pulses that are the input sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) . The PCM interprets the sensor input to determine the crankshaft position. The PCM then uses this position, along with other inputs, to determine injector sequence and ignition timing. The sensor is a Hall Effect device combined with an internal magnet. It is also sensitive to steel within a certain distance from it. On the 5.7 L V-8 engines, a tone wheel is bolted to the engine crankshaft. This tone wheel has sets of notches at its outer edge. The notches cause a pulse to be generated when they pass under the sensor. The pulses are the input to the PCM. The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located at the right-rear side of the engine cylinder block. It is positioned and bolted into a machined hole in the engine block. 1. Raise vehicle. 2. Disconnect CKP electrical connector at sensor. 3. Remove CKP mounting bolt. 4. Carefully twist sensor from cylinder block. 5. Remove sensor from vehicle. 6. Check condition of sensor O-ring. INSTALLATION 1. Clean out machined hole in engine block. 2. Apply a small amount of engine oil to sensor O-ring. 3. Install sensor into engine block with a slight rocking and twisting action. CAUTION: Before tightening sensor mounting bolt, be sure sensor is completely flush to cylinder block. If sensor is not flush, damage to sensor mounting tang may result. 4. Install mounting bolt and tighten to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) torque. 5. Connect electrical connector to sensor. 6. Lower vehicle. SYMPTOM P0339-CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR INTERMITTENT WHEN MONITORED While cranking engine and engine running. SET CONDITION When the CKP Sensor failure counter reaches 20. One Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL. POSSIBLE CAUSES • Good trip equal to zero • CKP wire harness inspection • (K7) 5 volt supply circuit open or shorted to ground • Tone wheel/pulse ring inspection • Checking CMP sensor signal with the DRBIII lab scope • Crankshaft position sensor • (K24) CKP signal circuit shorted to voltage • (K24) CKP signal circuit open • (K24) CKP signal circuit shorted to ground • (K24) CKP signal circuit shorted to (K7) 5 volt supply circuit • PCM
