Cops are human beings. In any given group of human beings you're going to have your share of assholes. You're also going to have your share who put their lives on the line every day, want to do the best job that they can, ask for no thanks and only want to return home safely to their families at the end of the work day.

I think they were already assholes before becoming cops. I think little assholes grow up to be big asshole cops because they have a power fetish.

As I've said sometimes before, what one does not like about someone- cops included I guess- is a reflection of yourself; your own behavior. Unless you can describe your particular situation that you were unfairly treated.

An Officer’s Life: You wonder why he pulled you over and gave you a ticket for speeding... He just worked an accident where people died because they were going to fast. o You wonder why that cop was so mean, He just got done working a case where a drunk driver killed a kid. o You work for 8 hours, He works for up to 18 hourso You drink hot coffee to stay awake, The cold rain in the middle of the night keeps him awake. o You complain of a 'headache', and call in sick, He goes into work still hurt and sore from the guy he had to fight the night before. o You drink your coffee on your way to the mall, He spills his as he runs code to a traffic crash with kids trapped inside. o You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket before you leave the house, He makes sure his gun is clean and fully loaded and his vest is tight. o You talk trash about your 'buddies' that aren't with you, He watches his buddy get shot at, and wounded in front of him. o You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls, He walks down the highway looking for body parts from a traffic crash. o You complain about how hot it is, He wears fifty pounds of gear and a bullet proof vest in July and still runs around chasing crack heads. o You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong, He runs out before he gets his food to respond to an armed robbery. o You get out of bed in the morning and take your time getting ready, He gets called out of bed at 2 am after working 12 hours and has to be into work A.S.A.P. for a homicide. o You go to the mall and get your hair redone, He holds the hair of some college girl while she’s puking in the back of his patrol car. o You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over, His shift ended 4 hours ago and there’s no end in sight. o You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight, He can't make any plans because on his off days he still gets called back into work. o You yell and scream at the squad car that just past you because they slowed you down, He's in the driver seat of the squad car, going to cut somebody out of their car. o You roll your eyes when a baby cries in public, He picks up a dead child in his arms and prays that it was crying. o You criticize your police dept and say they're never there quick enough, He blasts the siren while the person in front of him refuses to move while talking on their cell phone. o You hear the jokes about fallen officers and say they should have known better, He is a hero and runs into situations when everyone else is running away in order to make sure no one else gets hurt and loses his life doing it. o You are asked to go to the store by your parents, You don't, He would take a bullet for his buddy without question. o You sit there and judge him, saying that it’s a waste of money to have them around, Yet as soon as you need help he is there. My Dad was an officer that lost his life in the line of duty and ALL cops aren't assholes! However, if we all stayed out of trouble and followed the rules and regulations....(law) then there would be no problems with cops at all. Have a good night.

They all aren't. Just have to watch out for the young ones. They are trying to build their reputation, meet quotas,move up to detective etc.

When an officer get called an "asshole," he considers the source of the insult and takes it as a compliment. I would be honored if YOU called me an asshole. Watch your speed and have a nice day.

some people are assholes and some arent not all cops are assholes

Let's get the rhetoric out of the way first so someone related to a cop doesn't go postal on me: not all cops are bad, they have a hard, thankless, job, you don't get shot at in your line of work, blah blah blah. Hey you're right, I don't get shot at in my line of work. If you do get shot at, it means you've chosen that line of work. I fail to see how that's an excuse, but let's just roll with it. So now that we've got that in the clear, why are cops assholes? You get these guys, give them a gun and a badge and a shitty salary - then you give them massive amounts of power. Some will let that power go to their head and abuse their power. The rest of the cops, the ones not abusing their power, are going to get disillusioned by there work. Now add the fact that the average Joe on the street assumes that every cop is a "bad cop", or he's pissed off because that $100 speeding ticket made his insurance premiums go up and now he can't afford something he enjoys. So then these otherwise nice guys become bitter and assume everybody hates them, so they treat them accordingly. That's really only the tip of the iceberg; there are some other potential reasons, but someone is bound to get offended by them and it's really not worth it. Don't want an angry cop on my ass ;)
