Is it normal to want to try and beat depression without. taking any drugs? Between the side effects and the numbing of everything, is it really the best way to go?

    Without drugs, it takes a fair while longer. Though, you do have more of a sense of accomplishment.

    Side effects are always an issue with these medications, the key is to find the right one at the right dose that works for you. Your doctor prescribed you something for depression because in their clinical opinion you were experiencing symptoms that needed to be better managed so that the depression would not impact your life and responsibilities (i.e, work,school,family etc..) Sometimes people that are depressed do not realize how bad their symptoms really are, so if your doctor felt some intervention was necessary right now, I would listen to their advice for the present time. But find a medication and dosage that is effective for you with minimal side effects. Good luck.
