Actually, unless Australian toilets are constructed very differently than those in the rest of the world, this is NOT true. The Coriolis Force effect on something like a draining toilet is quite small, so the construction details of the toilet have a much greater effect on which direction the water swirls. http://www.snopes.com/science/coriolis.asp

Yes, I read about it in the newspaper. they are specially set up that way as they think it clears more that way. Weird their reasons for setting them up like that. they say it is less slpash.

LOL... toilets swirling left and right ?? what sort of toilet do you use? perhaps you are thinking of a tub draining.. water swirls down a plug hole.. not a toilet!?!
