What do you think of scientist Stephen W Hawking's writings? (I'm listening to audiobook of his "A Brief History of Time" right now)

He's not bad. He isn't the best writer in the scientific field but by no means the worst. Good physicist although again maybe not as great as the public perception would have us believe.

He's a theoretical physicist and a very good one. But his theories, while they were the best available at the time, are starting to show more inconsistencies as new data becomes available. Dark matter and dark energy are very problematic concepts and new evidence has been discovered recently supporting the Holographic Universe model. It remains to be seen whether his theories hold up.

They're a great introduction into physics, although a bit of a struggle at times

Dr. Hawking is one of my heroes. My dream job in a parallel universe would be to work with him..me, a Quantum Physicist of some repute..he, the genius he is. I have "A Brief History of Time", "The Theory of Everything" and "Stephen Hawking's Universe". Are you interested in Quantum Physics or just Stephen Hawking? :)
